Ingredients

For the Cocktail
  • 4 ounces tequila Opt for a good-quality silver or tequila reposado.
  • 8 ounces apple cider Freshly pressed is best; store-bought is fine if short on time.
  • 2 ounces fresh lime juice Fresh-squeezed is recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider For prepping the rim.
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar Regular or organic sugar is fine.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Ground cinnamon or fresh can be used.
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Balances sweetness.
  • crushed ice For serving.
  • apples, thinly sliced Use crisp varieties like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
  • cinnamon sticks For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare Your Rim: Set out two small plates. On the first plate, add the 1 tablespoon of apple cider. On the second plate, combine the 2 teaspoons sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Stir to combine evenly.
  2. Rim the Glasses: Lightly wet the rim of a lowball glass with the apple cider. Roll the edge in the cinnamon mixture, turning to coat thoroughly. Repeat with the other glass and set them aside.
  3. Mix the Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, combine 4 ounces of tequila, 8 ounces of apple cider, and 2 ounces of fresh lime juice with plenty of crushed ice. Shake vigorously until well chilled.
  4. Pour and Serve: Fill each rimmed lowball glass with crushed ice to the brim. Strain the chilled mixture evenly into each glass.
  5. Garnish: Finish by garnishing each drink with thinly sliced apples and a couple of cinnamon sticks.
