Ingredients

For the Blueberry Syrup
  • 1 cup blueberries Use fresh, ripe blueberries for the best flavor. Frozen blueberries will work in a pinch.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar You can adjust this based on your sweetness preference or substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • 1 cup cold water Make sure the water is cold to enhance the freshness of the drink.
For the Lemonade
  • 4-5 large lemons, freshly squeezed (about 1 cup juice) Choose firm, bright lemons for maximum juice yield.
  • 3 cups cold water, divided This will be mixed with the syrup and lemon juice.
  • as needed crushed ice For serving.
  • as needed lemon slices, for garnish Looks gorgeous and adds a hint of extra flavor.
  • as needed blueberries, for garnish Add a final touch to make the drink even more appealing.

Method

Prepare the Blueberry Syrup
  1. In a small saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries start to burst, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. You’ll know it’s ready when you see a thick, syrupy consistency and the berries have collapsed.
Mash and Strain
  1. Mash the blueberries gently to release even more flavor.
  2. Place a fine mesh sieve over a medium bowl and carefully pour the blueberry mixture through it.
  3. Using the back of a spoon, press down on the solids in the sieve to extract as much liquid as possible.
  4. Set the syrup in the refrigerator to cool slightly and dispose of the solids once strained.
Mix the Lemonade
  1. In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and the remaining 3 cups of cold water.
  2. Stir to combine well.
Serve
  1. Fill a tall glass with crushed ice.
  2. Pour the refreshing lemonade over the ice, and garnish with lemon slices and blueberries for that perfect finishing touch.
Enjoy
  1. Kick back, relax, and enjoy this delightful summer sip!

Notes

You can prepare the blueberry syrup a day in advance and simply mix it with lemon juice and water when you’re ready to serve. This Blueberry Lemonade pairs wonderfully with light summer foods like grilled chicken and fresh salads.
