Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, 2 tablespoons sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it rest for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Pour half of the vegetable oil into the yeast mixture, followed by the flour and salt. Stir until a soft, sticky dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a 12-inch pizza pan with parchment paper and pour the remaining oil onto the pan.
- Once the dough has risen, transfer it to the pan. Using your fingers, press it out to the edges while creating dimples.
- Bake for 10 minutes until it’s lightly golden but not fully baked.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and granulated sugar. Brush this mixture over the baked crust. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly on top.
- In another bowl, combine the 1 cup flour, 2/3 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, and kosher salt. Pour in the melted butter and stir until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle this topping evenly over the cherry filling.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 13-15 minutes, or until the topping turns golden brown.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, whole milk, and almond extract until smooth. Drizzle over the warm pizza.
- Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve as is or with vanilla ice cream.
