Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it's fresh for the best texture.
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder Double-check the freshness for rise!
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar Feel free to use coconut sugar for a hint of caramel flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt Essential to balance the sweetness.
  • 1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided I recommend Ghirardelli for the richest flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 cups buttermilk Room temperature yields the best results.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Make sure it’s slightly cooled before adding to the dough.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup of chocolate chips, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well mixed.
  3. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently with a spatula until mostly combined.
  4. Prepare the Baking Dish: Pour the melted butter into an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  5. Add Biscuit Mixture: Spoon the dough on top of the melted butter, spreading it into an even layer.
  6. Score and Top: Use a knife to score the dough into 9 equal squares and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 28-30 minutes.
  8. Absorb the Butter: Allow the biscuits to rest for a few minutes after baking.

Notes

For best results, let your butter come to room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
