Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Use a high-quality all-purpose flour like King Arthur or Bob's Red Mill.
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder Fresh baking powder guarantees your biscuits will rise perfectly!
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar Just enough to enhance the flavor without making them overly sweet.
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt A little salt helps balance the sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Fresh ground cinnamon is more flavorful than store-bought options.
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for topping) To provide a sweet crunch on the baked biscuits.
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping) Because more cinnamon is never a bad idea!
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 cups buttermilk Use fresh buttermilk for tanginess; substitute with milk mixed with vinegar if necessary.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted) Always use unsalted butter for control over flavor.
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar Adds sweetness to the butter sauce without gritting.
  • 2 tablespoons honey Opt for pure, natural honey for the best flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and kosher salt until fully combined.
  3. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until mostly combined. Lumps are okay!
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, confectioners' sugar, honey, and cinnamon.
  5. Pour the buttery mixture into an 8'x8' baking dish. Gently spread the dough on top, ensuring it covers the mixture evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the extra granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this over the dough.
Baking
  1. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into 9 equal squares.
  2. Bake in your preheated oven for 28-30 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown.
  3. Allow the biscuits to sit for a few minutes to soak up the buttery goodness before serving warm.

Notes
