Ingredients

Salad Base
  • 7 cups broccoli cut into bite-sized 1-inch florets Fresh is best! Look for bright green florets with firm stems for ideal crunch.
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked until crispy and crumbled Use thick-cut bacon for maximum flavor. Turkey bacon can be used for a lighter version.
  • 1/2 cup raisins Add a touch of natural sweetness that complements the saltiness of the bacon.
  • 1/4 cup red onions, finely chopped Red onions add a mild zing; soak in cold water for 10 minutes if preferred.
  • 1/4 cup sunflower kernels Try toasting them lightly for an extra layer of flavor.
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons Kraft coleslaw dressing Feel free to experiment with homemade versions if preferred.
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots Adds color and nutrition with a sweet crunch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bacon slices and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and let cool before crumbling.
  2. While the bacon cooks, finely chop the red onions and prepare the remaining ingredients: broccoli florets, raisins, sunflower kernels, and shredded carrots.
Mixing
  1. In a large bowl, combine the broccoli florets, crumbled bacon, raisins, chopped red onions, sunflower kernels, and shredded carrots.
  2. Pour the Kraft coleslaw dressing over this mixture and stir gently but thoroughly to ensure every piece is coated.
Chilling
  1. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serving
  1. Before serving, give it one last gentle stir to redistribute the dressing.

Notes

This salad is great on its own, but pairs well with grilled chicken or burgers. Keep toasted nuts separate until serving for crunch.
