Ingredients

Sauce Base
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise Choose a high-quality or organic brand for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or full-fat Greek yogurt For a lighter version, opt for Greek yogurt.
  • 3 tbsp minced fresh dill Fresh is key; dried dill lacks the vibrant flavor.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice Freshly squeezed adds brightness.
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon zest For an extra punch of citrus goodness.
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt Plus more to taste.
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper Freshly ground if possible for maximum flavor.
  • 1 tbsp cream or milk (optional) Use if you prefer a looser texture.

Method

Mixing
  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream or yogurt, dill, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
Adjusting Texture
  1. If you prefer a lighter texture, add the cream or milk to the mixture and stir until fully incorporated.
Chilling
  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the sauce for at least 10 minutes to meld the flavors.
Serving
  1. After chilling, taste the sauce and adjust the salt or lemon juice as needed. Serve drizzled over salmon or as a dipping sauce.

Notes

Store leftover sauce in an airtight container for up to a week. It can be made a couple of days in advance for deeper flavor development.
