  • 1 box 1 box (15.25 ounces) butter yellow cake mix Any brand works, but Betty Crocker is preferred.
  • 1 container 1 container (8 ounces) sour cream Full-fat is recommended for creaminess.
  • 4 large eggs 4 large eggs, room temperature For better blending, bring them to room temperature.
  • 3/4 cup 3/4 cup vegetable oil Can substitute with canola or coconut oil.
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup water Key for a moist cake.
Cinnamon Swirl Ingredients
  • 1 cup 1 cup light brown sugar, packed Pack it well.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Essential for warm flavor.
Glaze Ingredients
  • 2 cups 2 cups confectioners' sugar For the simple glaze.
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup whole milk Use full-fat or a dairy-free alternative.
  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Best quality enhances flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until combined, avoiding over-mixing.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
  4. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared dish. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top, then pour the remaining batter and swirl gently with a butter knife.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 38-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Glazing
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Pour the glaze over the warm cake as soon as it comes out of the oven, let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store tightly covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Can be prepared a day ahead; save the cinnamon-sugar mixture for fresh layering.
