Ingredients

For the Ribs
  • 4 lbs beef back ribs Look for ribs with good marbling for maximum flavor.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar Adds a hint of sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt Use coarse salt for even distribution.
  • 1 tbsp ground black pepper Provides a mild kick.
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Enhances the savory profile.
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika Infuses a subtle smokiness.
  • 1 tsp onion powder Complements garlic powder.
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper Adjust to taste for heat.
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or water Keeps the ribs moist while baking.
  • 2/3 cup BBQ sauce Use your favorite brand.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F.
  2. Flip the ribs over so the bone-side is facing up. Remove the thin, white membrane by gripping it with a paper towel and pulling it off completely.
Mix the Rub
  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Press the rub evenly over all sides of the ribs.
Prepare for Baking
  1. Line a large baking sheet with heavy-duty foil. Place the ribs in the center and pour apple cider vinegar or water underneath them.
  2. Fold the foil edges to create a shallow boat.
Seal and Bake
  1. Seal the ribs with another sheet of foil to protect them and bake for 3 hours.
Broil for Char
  1. After 3 hours, carefully open the foil and preheat the oven to broil.
  2. Brush BBQ sauce evenly over the ribs and broil for about 5 minutes until bubbling and lightly charred.
Rest and Serve
  1. Remove the ribs from the oven and allow them to rest for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Leftover ribs can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge or frozen for 2-3 months. Reheat slowly to maintain moisture. You can also apply the rub a day in advance for enhanced flavor.
